"What’s that saying... “in like a Lion, out like a lamb"; clearly New York City hasn't heard that one, because it's still April and it does not feel like winter has left, or that it has any plans on leaving at all. Nevertheless, us New Yorkers don’t have time to complain, so we just bundle up and head out.

This week’s college student is battling the weather with a sturdy tweed jacket and a warm knitted sweater. When traveling to and from class comfort and warmth are of great importance. There is no worse way to start your day off then shivering the entire walk to class, especially when it is April.

Tweed and knitted pieces go very well together and create an outfit that looks straight from the Emerald Isle (n.b. Ireland, not N.C.). Until the cold can be slain, there is no other option than to suck it up, bundle up and get moving."

In the city that never sleeps, when we do wake up from those rare weekend slumbers, the first thing we want to do is brunch. Even if there was a momentary scare that our weekend morning traditions might be taken from our grasp, New Yorkers are always ready for those never ending brunches. The question that is always on our minds is "What to wear?"

Molly has put together a cute outfit fit for a brunch downtown. Whether it’s a ladies tea day on the town or a guys' brunch, New Yorkers always try to look their best.

She pairs a taupe quilted vest with leather accents, with a basic white oxford that is reminiscent of brunch at the country club. Pair that with a pair of dark washed jeans and flats, and you have the perfect outfit for a Sunday morning that might very well go into the evening. Spring. like fall, is a great time to layer up, as evenings can get quite chilly, and vests are great transitional pieces that can easily be taken off. PATTERNS, PURSES & PERSONALITY Alessandra | Fordham University

Our NYC resident Campus Sartorialist, James Breen shares his ideas on putting together an outfit, as part of #MacysCampusTour: "The number one thing when putting an outfit together is to make sure its "You". Don’t wear clothes that you think you should; wear what you like, what flatters you, and what is fun."

This beautiful Sartorialist mixes textures and patterns perfectly. There are three big pillars of fashion, color, texture, and patterns. Mixing different combinations of these three can create some outstanding looks, like this one. She kept the color palette basic while she amped up the textures and patterns. The flowy VInce Camuto Perforated Faux Leather Panel top from Macy's adds texture through the alternating black and white pattern.

Texture is important and in this outfit its present everywhere, from the metals to the leather on the skirt and bag. Warmer skin tones, like Alessandra's, favor gold, and she chose to accessorize her outfit by wearing a large gold ring and and a Gold Tone engraved Heart Bracelet set by American Rag at Macy's.

PAIR OF JEANS Fordham University

Our Campus Sartorialist in the city, James Breen, visited Macy's and here's what he found:

Since this is my first post in the exciting #MacysCampusTour series, I thought it appropriate to shop as if I were shopping for the first piece in a completely new wardrobe. It must be ubiquitous, it must be versatile, and it must be snazzy (pronounced: Sch-nah-zee). The clear-cut winner in the must-have-item category was a great pair of jeans. Shopping for a pair of jeans may be daunting, and the options may seem endless, with so many cuts, colors and brands out there. When I am looking for a quality pair of jeans I look no further then the Levi’s jeans bar. It might not be called a “jeans bar” per se, but I think it should (and I should get royalties) because the options and selections are endless.

I went for the slim-cut 511 dark Levi’s. This pair of jeans works for any occasion: a dinner date (the jeans go great with a blazer), hanging around the house, or just going to class. The dark color can easily transition from day to night, and the slim cut is both flattering and appropriate for work events.

One of our favorite things about fall and winter is that we get to layer up, and, most importantly, bring out our sweaters. Since the days of old Ivy, sweaters have served as more than just an extra layer of warmth, showing everyone else what college and university your alma mater was, as well as any athletic affiliations (read about Ed Heald, Dartmouth '68, whose 1968 sweater graced the pages of Take Ivy twice, here)

Enter Hillflint, started by several college friends from Dartmouth and Princeton who were tired of the typical, uninspiring apparel options often found in today's university stores. They got their start at Dartmouth College by designing and making luxury class numeral sweaters for our classmates and have since expanded to other New England colleges.

Since the launch, Hilflint has sought to perfect the collegiate sweater and they have recently started a Kickstarter campaign to help them bring the Mark One sweater idea to life.  The Mark One sweater is designed to be thicker, softer and better fitting than sweaters currently on the market. They just need our help to make it happen.

Akil serves as an Academic Advisor for the Educational Opportunity Program at Buffalo State College. He tells us he believes in a lot of things but being overdressed and over educated is not one of them. His interest in menswear and fine tailoring came about when he started my first internship in graduate school and he was the youngest and only man of color in most of his courses. As he quickly realized that the way you dress says a lot about you, Akil decided that in order to be respected and taken seriously amongst his peers and supervisors, he would dress for the role that he was aspiring for. Akil also runs a blog, Dapper Advisor, through which he inspires other young aspiring professionals to dress well for their body, lifestyle, and career.
